The entire CHASI team offers our wholehearted congratulations to Dr. Sarah Beaulieu on her well-deserved tenure-track appointment to the School of Culture, Media and Society.<\/p>\n

As an anthropologist with a research focus in modern conflict anthropology, Dr. Beaulieu\u2019s work is key to understanding facets of Canadian history that have remained in the shadows for too long. Dr. Beaulieu places the communities she works alongside and the students she mentors at the centre of her engagement with some of the most pressing questions of our time.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Dr. Beaulieu\u2019s efforts in supporting the work of the Tk\u2019eml\u00faps te Secw\u00e9pemc First Nation sparked international attention<\/a> on Canada\u2019s residential school system.<\/p>\n

Dr. Beaulieu is also the first person to lead the excavation of WWI internment sites in Canada, helping to highlight stories of internees who have been largely ignored by the historical record. Work at one such site is documented in the CHASI\u2019s documentary Fragments of History<\/a>, and in a recent exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History<\/a>.<\/p>\n
