Statistics Canada has also shared information on the discrimination and challenges that the LGBTQ2+ community faces:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Police reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/210329\/dq210329a-eng.htm\">263 hate crime<\/a>s targeting sexual orientation in 2019, up 41% from a year earlier. This is the highest number of hate crimes targeting sexual orientation since 2009.<\/li>\n<li>Sexual-minority Canadians were more likely than heterosexual Canadians to report that they <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/200909\/dq200909a-eng.htm\">consider their mental health to be poor or fair<\/a> (32% versus 11%)<\/li>\n<li>They were also more likely to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/210615\/dq210615a-eng.htm\">seriously contemplated suicide<\/a> in their lifetimes (40% versus 15%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CHASI will continue to listen to, support, and conduct research to improve the social, mental, emotional, physical, and economic health of our colleagues, our friends, and our communities.
