With free coffee and Timbits, students, staff, and faculty came together to voice their opinions on how UFV and the Fraser Valley community can become\u00a0more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-250 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-1-min-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-1-min-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-1-min-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-1-min-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Some suggestions put forward were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Increasing the availability and consistency of garbage, recycling, and composting; and actually composting items<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">A UFV Farm to supply food for cafeterias, which could lead to an opportunity for student employment<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Campus Carpool initiative<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Green roofs and solar panels on our campuses<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">A course where students are responsible for greener changes and the upkeep<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">A light rail line to the Fraser Valley<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">Encouraging the reduced use of Ziplock bags and use of more recyclable bags or boxes or reusable containers to pack your meals in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The School of Business along with Sustainable UFV encouraged discussions amongst students around the topic of the United Nations 17 global development goals, and answered questions on how their current course research projects could be shaped into an essay entry for the Sustainable Development Essay Competition running till May 01, 2017 (for more details see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/UNgoals\"><span class=\"s3\">https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/UNgoals<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-251 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-5-min-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-5-min-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-5-min-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/business\/files\/2017\/03\/Sustainability-Morning-5-min-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt was encouraging to hear from students about what research that they are currently doing and how\u00a0they wanted to apply it to helping our communities reach the UN\u2019s Global Goals. I think that as staff and faculty members, it is our job to encourage our students\u00a0to delve into topics around social responsibility and sustainability.
