The 2019 Sustainability Case Competition took place on March 15th, 2019 and featured 5 student teams presenting their solutions to a local sustainability\u00a0challenge. This year’s challenge: How can the University of the Fraser Valley work with the region (Fraser Valley Regional District) to respond and prepare for becoming a zero waste society?<\/p>\n

Student teams presented a variety of innovative ways in which UFV can help create zero waste campuses including proposals to promote Ebook culture at the bookstore, introduce reusable takeaway containers at the cafeteria,\u00a0and create awareness campaigns in the community lead by UFV students.<\/p>\n

This competition offered students an opportunity to work collaboratively and engage in solving real world\u00a0challenges, respond to ambitious targets set by local government, and consider a multi-stakeholder approach to a local issue with global implications.<\/p>\n

This diverse group of students featured multi-disciplinary teams from across UFV as well as a team of local high school students from the Rick Hansen Secondary School Business Program, and presentations were judge by UFV School of Business Alumnus, Charles Spencer; UFV Instructor and local resident, Tillie Parmar; and City of Abbotsford Councillor, Patricia Ross.<\/p>\n
