Pacific Venture Capital Conference and Competition

The Pacific Venture Capital Conference and Competition (PVCC) competition is targeted towards students who wish to increase their breadth of knowledge towards Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship, with the added bonus of refining hands-on Capital Markets skills on a professional level.

PVCC is an international competition and conference designed for two types of student innovators: ones with start-up ideas, and ones with a passion for seeing those start-ups come to life through valuations. The competition is a global stage for undergraduate and MBA students to present business ideas and financial valuations to an audience of entrepreneurial leaders, senior venture capitalists, and top industry professionals across North America.

Since its first inception in 2012 with 2 universities, PVCC has grown today to over 40 participating universities around the world, with over 400 competitors and 350 conference attendees. Over the years, our keynotes have introduced high-profile business delegate speakers – including those from Google, Hootsuite, and Dragon’s Den.

The competition is now accepting student teams, and teams are strongly encouraged to register in the week of Jan.24-29, although they may still register up until February 4th for the Entrepreneurship stream accommodating flexibility in circumstances – the dates Jan. 31 and Feb. 4 mark the hard deadlines for submission of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital stream deliverables respectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to stand out in their pursuit of a career in Finance, or students from wide-ranging disciplines wishing for a boost in creating and fine-tuning Entrepreneurial start-up aspirations. Aside from the competition side of events, I am similarly hoping to promote the Conference taking place March 23rd at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, for which students may sign up for in the coming weeks.

School of Business finance students impress at annual CFA competition (and place third!)

IMG_1608The School of Business is thrilled to announce that on March 11, 2016 a team of our Finance students participated in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Students Research Challenge, and placed third!

The UFV team worked diligently for over 5 months, and their hard work paid off, when they held their own against graduate level teams from SFU, and placed higher than a graduate team from UVIC, (who last year won the competition) and other undergraduate teams from UBC and Kwantlen. This is an incredible accomplishment for our team, and we couldn’t be prouder.

This is a global competition, which hosts more than 4000 students from 865 universities annually, held at three levels, local, regional, and global. Our students shined in the local BC challenge, despite being in their final year of study, with packed academic curricula. This competition is one of the toughest student competitions, and their commitment and work ethic proves yet again that UFV is well on its path to provide the best undergraduate education in Canada.

Congratulations to our students!
