Ambivalence and \u2018good\u2019 mothering on welfare in Ontario, Canada<\/em>, examining how welfare policies reinforce social and economic vulnerabilities for mothers while shaping expectations around \u201cgood\u201d mothering. <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/13229400.2026.2640944#abstract\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"358\" data-end=\"449\">Read article<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"781\"><strong data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"566\">Darren Blakeborough, Associate Professor, Media and Communication Studies<\/strong>, appeared as a guest expert on the <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/6CCE4Gzjyd5MWo2QqdL3cF\"><em data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"615\">2 Drinks In<\/em> podcast<\/a> discussing the film <em data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"660\">Train to Busan<\/em>. The professor also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7_b6ewDxlTk\">interviewed filmmaker Matt Johnson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dRHufouI8Ss\">director Patrick Brice<\/a> for the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival Podcast, discussing filmmaking, storytelling, and creative process.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1628\"><strong data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1299\">Michael Corman, Associate Professor, Sociology<\/strong>, was an invited speaker at the <a href=\"https:\/\/psea.bc.ca\/\">Post-Secondary Employers\u2019 Association<\/a> Sector Benefits Program Conference, presenting <em data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1457\">Beyond Mindfulness: Structural Wellness<\/em>, which explored structural approaches to wellbeing in post-secondary environments.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1628\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1639\" data-end=\"1660\">Political Science<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1925\"><strong data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1700\">Simon Lambek, Assistant Professor<\/strong>, published the sole-authored article <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1057\/s41296-026-00808-w\"><em data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1769\">The Meta-Representative Claim<\/em> in <em data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1804\">Contemporary Political Theory<\/em><\/a>. The professor also\u00a0participated in the launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telustvplus.com\/#\/detail\/episode\/PAGE\/DETAILS\/MOVIE\/f6de1d22-3a47-4f3f-a8fd-969f4068c7c2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.telustvplus.com\/#\/detail\/episode\/PAGE\/DETAILS\/MOVIE\/f6de1d22-3a47-4f3f-a8fd-969f4068c7c2\">What\u2019s In the Hat?: Laughing Matters<\/a>, a new video podcast and television series developed through posAbilities, the Social Media Fellowship, and TELUS STORYHIVE.\u00a0The project highlights creators with disabilities engaging academics and experts in conversations around humour, accessibility, and inclusion.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"8mlfg1\" data-start=\"1932\" data-end=\"1981\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1936\" data-end=\"1979\">Criminology and Criminal Justice<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1982\" data-end=\"2307\"><strong data-start=\"1982\" data-end=\"2023\">Amanda McCormick, Associate Professor<\/strong>, served as a panelist on the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gov.bc.ca\/releases\/2026PSSG0035-000457\"><em data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2103\">Coroner\u2019s Intimate Partner Violence Death Review<\/em><\/a>, which provided recommendations for addressing intimate partner violence in British Columbia. The professor also\u00a0delivered two presentations at the <em data-start=\"2387\" data-end=\"2458\">16th Annual Network to Eliminate Violence in Relationships Conference<\/em>, focusing on access to medical-forensic exams and stakeholder knowledge of forensic nursing and medical-forensic examinations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2625\" data-end=\"2941\"><strong data-start=\"2625\" data-end=\"2662\">Carlos Ponce, Associate Professor<\/strong>, co-authored the article <em data-start=\"2688\" data-end=\"2815\">\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/epdf\/10.1007\/s43576-026-00216-5?sharing_token=aARf6i6N7FefcgC04PL2Qfe4RwlQNchNByi7wbcMAY71sOUM5MYvLZItKPbC6oDNhqfD0T3WuvyhRiH-o2AE-DaD8ZFBLoLgPHhBAawd8JrROk7eMj9VrB3cWm3oeYWm8v9hxFPw_rsQKv1Vnfk_304F6obOWGeF1s0G1H9WqDg%3D\">You got a problem?\u2019: Arguments in traffic stops in the US and El Salvador and the implications for police procedural justice<\/a><\/em> with P. Shon in <em data-start=\"2832\" data-end=\"2859\">International Criminology<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"3307\"><strong data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"3131\">Irwin Cohen, Associate Professor; Amanda McCormick, Associate Professor; Carlos Ponce, Associate Professor; Kevin Burk, Assistant Professor; and Karine Descormiers, Assistant Professor<\/strong>, presented a panel on academic and police partnerships at the Canadian Association of Police Educators Conference in New Westminster, BC.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1cqgmbt\" data-start=\"3314\" data-end=\"3334\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"3318\" data-end=\"3332\">Philosophy<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3335\" data-end=\"3809\"><strong data-start=\"3335\" data-end=\"3363\">Joseph Carew, Instructor<\/strong>, co-edited <em data-start=\"3375\" data-end=\"3408\">The Palgrave Schelling Handbook<\/em> with Sean McGrath and Kyla Bruff. The volume brings together 28 chapters by international scholars examining the thought, influence, and legacy of Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling.
