- Dr. Wade Deisman, Associate Dean, Social Sciences was quoted in a CBC News article<\/strong> titled \u201cPolice warn against vigilante justice after alleged child sex luring and assaults.<\/a>\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n
- Dr Wade was also featured on CBC Radio\u2019s On The Coast<\/em><\/strong><\/a> with Gloria Macarenko, discussing public safety concerns in Metro Vancouver, with a focus on repeat offenders and bail reform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
School of Culture, Media and Society (SCMS)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

- Dr. Michael Corman, Associate Professor of Sociology, attended the Conference on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching in Calgary. The theme was Reassessing Assessment in Postsecondary Education, and his experience raised lots of reflections as phenomenological look at students\u2019 experiences of \u201cungrading\u201d.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Corman also presented at the 2025 UBC Seminar on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization in the Life Sciences. His presentation, Blues Run the Game: Moving Beyond the Tyranny of the Bio-Psycho-Medico, drew from his long-standing research into paramedicine and healthcare systems. He argued for a more sociologically-informed approach that attends to systemic and social determinants of health in education and practice.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Michael Corman, Associate Professor, Sociology, published the article: Corman, M., Phillips, P., and McCann, L. (Forthcoming). The Future of Paramedic Education: Problematizing the Translucent Curriculum in Paramedicine<\/a>. Paramedicine (\u2018The Future of Paramedicine\u2019 \u2013 Special Issue).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Criminology and Criminal Justice<\/strong><\/h2>\n

- Dr. Carlos Ponce, Associate Professor, co-authored an article analyzing changes in gang communication patterns in the article called Still Standing: Proactive Resilience Mechanisms in the MS-13 in El Salvador<\/a> –\u00a0\u00a0British Journal of Criminology.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Hayli Millar, Associate Professor, co-authored the blog post A Mother\u2019s Day Reflection on Advancing the Rights of Justice-Involved Women and Their Children<\/em><\/a> for the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Amanda McCormick, Professor, was interviewed on CBC Radio\u2019s BC Today<\/em> with Michelle Eliot<\/a>, commenting on concerns surrounding repeat violent offenders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

- Dr. Barbara Messamore, Professor, published the book Times of Transformation<\/a>: The 1921 Canadian General Election with UBC Press as part of the Turning Point Elections series.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Alessandro Tarsia, Assistant Professor, presented the paper The Colonial Tobacco Invasion and Terraforming of Sem\u00e1:th X\u00f3:tsa (Sumas Lake) at the BC Studies Conference hosted by UBC on May 2, 2025.<\/li>\n
- Dr. Chris Hyland, Limited Term Appointment Instructor, presented the paper Truth and Reconciliation at Alexander College at the Canadian Historians of Education Association conference in Ottawa in October 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- Dr. Hamish Telford, Associate Professor, was interviewed by CNN regarding the Canadian Liberal Party\u2019s search for a new leader to succeed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
