{"id":6471,"date":"2015-01-19T10:30:32","date_gmt":"2015-01-19T18:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/announce\/?p=6471"},"modified":"2015-01-22T10:41:15","modified_gmt":"2015-01-22T18:41:15","slug":"cascades-weekend-recap-mens-hoopsters-extend-win-streak-to-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/announce\/2015\/01\/19\/cascades-weekend-recap-mens-hoopsters-extend-win-streak-to-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Cascades weekend recap: Men&#8217;s hoopsters extend win streak to 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Cascades men\u2019s basketball team extended their Canada West regular season winning streak to 26 games in thrilling fashion in Edmonton, highlighted the weekend action for the UFV Athletic department.<br \/>\nHead coach Adam Friesen\u2019s squad swept a pair of road games against the MacEwan Griffins, but took vastly different routes each night to get the desired result.<br \/>\nOn Friday the CIS No. 7-ranked Cascades blew out the Griffins 123-67, setting a new CIS season-high for points in a single game and a Canada West season-high for margin of victory (56 points). UFV\u2019s stellar three-point shooting paved the way \u2013 they hit a scorching 20-of-33 attempts from beyond the arc, led by Manny Dulay (23 points, 7-of-9 from three) and Vijay Dhillon (21 points, 5-of-6 from three).<br \/>\nThe next night, the Cascades needed a three-pointer from Kevon Parchment with nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and they opened the extra session on a 9-0 run and ended up winning 90-83. Parchment scored eight of his game-high 22 points in OT, while Jasper Moedt had 21 points and 10 rebounds.<br \/>\nThe men\u2019s hoopsters (12-0) are in action at home this weekend, hosting the UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday (8 pm) and Saturday (7 pm) at the Envision Athletic Centre.<\/p>\n<p>WBB: Cascades swept by Griffins<\/p>\n<p>The UFV women\u2019s basketball team suffered a pair of losses in Edmonton, falling 90-59 on Friday and 83-75 on Saturday.<br \/>\nSarah Wierks was a bright light in Friday\u2019s defeat, registering 28 points and 14 rebounds. The Cascades turned in a much better effort in Saturday\u2019s rematch, led by Wierks\u2019s 23 points and 13 boards, but MacEwan fended them off down the stretch. Katie Brink scored 19 points, and Celeste Dyck had 13.<br \/>\nThe UFV women (6-6) host UBC Okanagan on Friday (6 pm) and Saturday (5 pm) at the Envision Athletic Centre. Friday\u2019s game is their annual Shoot for the Cure night \u2013 a fundraiser for the B.C.\/Yukon chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>WVB: Chargers get the best of Cascades<\/p>\n<p>Winning on the road against the No. 4-ranked team in the nation proved just as hard as it sounded for the Cascades women\u2019s volleyball team.<br \/>\nUFV sustained straight-sets defeats on both Friday and Saturday against the Camosun Chargers in Victoria. The Cascades, ranked No. 9 in the CCAA, saw their record dip to 9-7.<br \/>\nThey play at home this weekend, taking on the Vancouver Island University Mariners on Friday (6 pm) and Saturday (1 pm) at the Student Activity Centre North Gym.<\/p>\n<p>MVB: Camosun extends Cascades\u2019 losing streak<\/p>\n<p>The UFV men\u2019s volleyball team had a similar experience to their female counterparts, falling in straight sets both nights to a nationally ranked Chargers team.<br \/>\nCamosun, ranked No. 12 in the CCAA, swept the weekend set to extend the Cascades\u2019 losing streak to seven games.
