{"id":622,"date":"2013-10-18T15:14:53","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T22:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/announce\/?p=622"},"modified":"2013-10-22T14:13:20","modified_gmt":"2013-10-22T21:13:20","slug":"ufv-cascades-womens-and-mens-golf-teams-win-ccaa-national-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/announce\/2013\/10\/18\/ufv-cascades-womens-and-mens-golf-teams-win-ccaa-national-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"UFV Cascades women\u2019s and men\u2019s golf teams win CCAA national championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>UFV Cascades Women\u2019s and Men\u2019s golf \u00a0teams win CCAA national cha<b><i>mpionship in Quebec City \u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TheUFV Cascades men\u2019s and women\u2019s golf teams both captured the 2013 CCAA national championship titles on Oct 18 at the Royal Quebec Golf Club, in Quebec City, Quebec.\u00a0This marks the program\u2019s first national titles for both teams and the first double national championship since the Humber College Hawks (OCAA) captured both titles six years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The men won the three-day tournament with a combined score of 863, 12 strokes better than the silver medalists and four-time defending champions Humber College Hawks (OCAA) with a team score of 875.\u00a0The Pacwest\u2019s Camosun College Chargers earned the CCAA bronze medal with a score of 881.\u00a0The Cascades\u2019 scores (daily) were 283, 290 and 290.\u00a0They won the first two rounds but finished two strokes behind Camosun today, with a score of 288.\u00a0Today\u2019s two-stroke loss was UFV\u2019s only second-place finish all year.\u00a0They had come into today\u2019s round undefeated, winning every round in the PACWEST regular season\u00a0 and at the CCAA nationals. There were 15 teams from the five conferences participating in this week\u2019s championship.<\/p>\n<p>Cascade<strong> Aaron Pauls<\/strong> of \u00a0Chilliwack finished second with a three-day score of 211 to earn the national individual silver medal.\u00a0Cascade <strong>Darren Whitehouse<\/strong> of Langley finished third overall with a score of 212.\u00a0The overall champion was <strong>Colton Kalkanis<\/strong>, Georgian College (OCAA) with a score of 201. The top five are CCAA tournament All-Stars.<\/p>\n<p>The women won the CCAA national championship with a three- day score of 461, 24 strokes better than silver medalists St. Clair College Saints (OCAA) with a score of 485. The Humber College Hawks (OCAA) earned the national bronze medal with a score of 493. The team\u2019s three-day scores were 153, 149, and 159.
