Join UFV for an evening with Rick Westhead, TSN senior correspondent and award-winning investigative journalist, as he explores the stories behind his reporting \u2014 and the responsibility we all share to speak up, listen, and help create safer, more inclusive communities.<\/p>\n
Westhead has been recognized by the Canadian Journalists for Freedom of Expression in 2023 with the Arnold Amber Award for Investigative Journalism and is a two-time winner of Canadian Sports Writer of the Year. His book, We Breed Lions: Confronting Canada\u2019s Troubled Hockey Culture<\/em> was an instant best-seller and a finalist for the Trillium Award. His investigative reporting has brought important conversations about safety, accountability, and sport culture into the national spotlight.<\/p>\n Prior to joining TSN, Westhead served as a foreign correspondent for the Toronto Star, where he reported on the ground in countries including Afghanistan, China, and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n As part of Purple Lights Nights, this special President\u2019s Leadership Lecture will explore the power of storytelling to amplify voices, challenge harmful systems, and contribute to meaningful change \u2014 and the role each of us can play in creating communities where people are heard, supported, and safe.<\/p>\n $30 General | $10 UFV Students<\/p>\n Your ticket also includes access to the UFV Cascades Volleyball home opener games on Friday, October 23, featuring Purple Lights Nights activities in support of the campaign.<\/p>\n Any proceeds will support a local organization serving women experiencing violence and crisis.<\/p>\n Registration link will be available soon.
