The UFV School of Continuing Education has reached an important milestone with the approval of its Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program by the BC Society of Laboratory Science (BCSLS) on August 11, 2026.<\/p>\n
The approval confirms that UFV\u2019s new MLA program aligns with the provincial competency profile and curriculum established by BCSLS for medical laboratory assistants in British Columbia. It ensures that students will receive education and training that prepares them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to enter the profession.<\/p>\n
\u201cRecognition by the BC Society of Laboratory Science is an important milestone for UFV\u2019s newly launched Medical Laboratory Assistant program,\u201d said Carolyn MacLaren, Director of the School of Continuing Education. \u201cIt reflects the significant work that has gone into developing a program that prepares students for the profession and supports the need for skilled health-care professionals in British Columbia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The program\u2019s first cohort will begin in January 2027 at UFV\u2019s Chilliwack campus. Students will complete career-focused coursework and hands-on learning designed to prepare them for work as medical laboratory assistants in a health-care setting.<\/p>\n
The approval marks another step forward for UFV\u2019s School of Continuing Education as it expands opportunities for students to pursue careers in health care and supports the university\u2019s commitment to meeting the workforce needs of the region and province.<\/p>\n
