On September 28, UFV will welcome Dr. Robby Zidny, recipient of the 2025 SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award, to campus as part of his dissemination tour in Canada.<\/p>\n
UFV was invited by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE) to host Dr. Zidny, whose award recognizes emerging scholars whose research contributes to social development in Southeast Asia and encourages collaboration and knowledge exchange between Southeast Asian and Canadian researchers.<\/p>\n
Dr. Zidny\u2019s award-winning research, Science and Chemistry Education Innovation through the Integration of Indigenous Knowledge<\/i>, explores how Indigenous knowledge can enrich science and chemistry education. His visit comes at a particularly meaningful time, as we approach National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. His presentation and the conversation that follows will provide an opportunity to reflect on Indigenous ways of knowing and the importance of creating space for different knowledge systems to come together through respectful learning and exchange.<\/p>\n
Following Dr. Zidny\u2019s presentation, a panel facilitated by Dr. Stefania Pizzirani, associate director of UFV\u2019s Food and Agricultural Institute, will bring together Dr. Zidny, Swelchalot Dr. Shirley Hardman, AVP, Xwexw\u00edlmexwawt; Dr. Daryl Smith, director of UFV International; and Fabiola Cruz Alderete, a UFV student in environmental studies. Together, they will explore how bringing knowledge systems together can deepen our understanding of relationships, health, and the world around us, while highlighting the value of collaboration and diverse perspectives in addressing complex challenges.<\/p>\n
