On Dec 3, the University of the Fraser Valley will join the global Giving Tuesday movement to raise $10,000 for the Student Support and Resilience Fund<\/strong>. This vital fund serves as a lifeline for students experiencing food insecurity, housing instability, and other urgent needs.<\/p>\n

For UFV students, life\u2019s unpredictable challenges can quickly become barriers to their education. Imagine navigating an economic crisis as a student: losing your job, facing a sudden car repair bill, or finding yourself without stable housing. The Student Support and Resilience Fund<\/strong> provides emergency relief, helping students cover basic needs so they can stay focused on their studies.<\/p>\n

As Mallory Manley, Manager, Student Support Centre shared:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve seen first-hand how emergency funding can make a difference between a student staying in school or withdrawing. It provides relief when students need it most \u2014 like finding a safe place to stay or covering essentials after a sudden job loss.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Why Your Support Matters<\/strong><\/h4>\n

With rising living costs and economic pressures, more students are in need of immediate assistance than ever before. Last year, the UFV-SUS Food Bank saw a sharp rise in requests, reflecting the increasing food insecurity faced by students. This year, our focus expands to address housing instability and other emergencies, ensuring no student is left behind.<\/p>\n

Ways to Get Involved<\/strong><\/h4>\n

  1. Donate on Giving Tuesday<\/strong>: Visit the Giving Tuesday webpage<\/a> on Dec 3 to make a gift. Every dollar helps a student focus on their education instead of urgent financial concerns.<\/li>\n
