Join UFV’s Graphic and Digital Design department and Trevor Embury, assistant professor, at UFV Abbotsford on Wednesday, September 25, for the launch of a public seminar series titled ‘Counterforms: Practices, Theories, and Methods.’<\/p>\n
Seminars start at 6 pm in room C1422.<\/p>\n
Explore the complexities of design across its various modalities, from practice and activism to discipline and ways of knowing, and beyond. Pparticipants will engage with Dr. Katherine Gillieson on September 25, and Dr. Bonne Zabolotney in a second seminar on Wednesday, October 9. Both are from Emily Carr University, and both challenge conventional notions and highlight the often hidden, complex dimensions of design. Each session promises to broaden horizons and provoke critical thinking, examining design as a catalyst for community building, pushing boundaries, and driving social change, as well as a disciplined practice grounded in theory and exploration.<\/p>\n
Participants will explore design as a field of study, unravelling its historical foundations and contemporary challenges, and understanding design as an act of reconfiguration \u2014 shaping experiences, interactions, and meaning.<\/p>\n
