Congratulations to Barbara Salingre, BEd advisor and associate professor in Teacher Education, who received the Association of BC Deans of Education (ABCDE) Teacher Educator award this year.<\/p>\nCongratulations to Barbara Salingre, BEd advisor and associate professor in Teacher Education, who received the Association of BC Deans of Education (ABCDE) Teacher Educator award this year.<\/p>\n
Barbara was a founding employee in the Teacher Education<\/a> program in 2006 and has been at employed at UFV in various capacities since 1991.<\/p>\n Barbara Salingr\u00e9<\/strong>, Associate Professor and Advisor, BEd program, University of the Fraser Valley<\/p>\n \u201cBarbara has been with UFV\u2019s teacher education program since its inception. She was pivotal in working with the (then) BC College of Teachers to develop, what is now, the BEd Program. \u00a0In many ways, Barbara is seen as the \u201cheart\u201d of the program given her strong connections with students before, during, and after the program. She provides one-on-one support of students as they journey through becoming a teacher. More than focusing on students enrolled in a teacher education program, Barbara supports students in coming to understand their identity as teachers, counselling them as they work towards preparing for teacher education, supporting equity seeking students as they apply to programs, and supporting them within the program. She is an astounding instructor, mentor, and advocate for the success of her students. One alum writes, \u201cBarbara is angelic and exemplifies love and compassion.
