JUNE 6 | Clare’s Law: The right to ask, the right to know – but not in BC?
\nIn 2014, England and Wales introduced Clare\u2019s Law in memory of Clare Wood, who was the victim of femicide by her former intimate partner. Clare\u2019s Law allows people to apply to the police for disclosure of information about a history of abuse among current or former intimate partners. Several Canadian provinces have recently introduced Clare\u2019s Law via provincial legislation. A similar attempt to do so in British Columbia in 2019 was not successful.<\/p>\n

This event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Charlotte Barlow from the University of Central Lancashire about her research on Clare\u2019s Law in the United Kingdom. Additional presentations will be given by the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia and the \u2018E\u2019 Division RCMP regarding the potential benefits and challenges of introducing Clare\u2019s Law in British Columbia.<\/p>\n
