Sessions are scheduled via ZOOM for the 1st Wednesday of the month with a topic to guide our discussion.<\/p>\n<p>November 2 (12-1 pm)<br \/>\nAboriginal Veterans: the truths<\/p>\n<p>December 7 (12-1 pm)<br \/>\nTime for Celebrations: storytelling<br \/>\n_______________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>TERRITORY ACKNOWLEDGMENT WORKSHOPS (In person)<br \/>\nDuring this session, we will learn about the Halq&#8217;em\u00e9ylem speaking St\u00f3:l\u014d people&#8217;s intrinsic relationship with what they refer to as S\u2019\u00f3lh T\u00e9m\u00e9xw. We will connect with the land and learn how to create a personal and culturally appropriate territory acknowledgment.<\/p>\n<p>October 17 (12-1 pm)<br \/>\nAbbotsford &#8212; Indigenous Teaching Garden (behind Bldg. S)<\/p>\n<p>October 26 (3-4 pm)<br \/>\nChilliwack &#8212; Shakespeare Reconciliation Garden (East entrance to Bldg. A)<\/p>\n<p>November 17 (4-5 pm)<br \/>\nAbbotsford &#8212; Indigenous Teaching Garden (behind Bldg. S)<\/p>\n<p>November 30 (3-4 pm)<br \/>\nChilliwack &#8212; Shakespeare Reconciliation Garden (East entrance to Bldg. A)<br \/>\n_______________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>CULTURAL HUMILITY AND SAFETY WORKSHOP &#8212; Indigenous Students (online)<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn about the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma, and ways to use this knowledge to support cultural humility and safety in their practice as it pertains to supporting Indigenous students.<\/p>\n<p>October 20 (12-1pm)<br \/>\n_________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>FIRST PEOPLE&#8217;S PRINCIPLE OF LEARNING WORKSHOP (online)<\/p>\n<p>The First Nations Education Steering Committee consulted with First Nation communities, elders, scholars, and knowledge keepers to develop this tool to assist in the development of curriculum and teaching\/learning strategies. An overview of the principles will be provided, and we will discuss ways to infuse the First People\u2019s Principles of Learning into your practice.<\/p>\n<p>October 25th (12-1pm) Zoom<br \/>\n_______________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>INTRODUCTION TO ABORIGINAL WAYS OF KNOWING WORKSHOP (online)<br \/>\nAn overview of the BCTF Aboriginal Ways of Knowing and Being poster will be provided. It will be used as a guideline to engage in dialogue about Aboriginal Ways of Knowing and Being. Then participate in hands-on learning activities that are culturally appropriate for your teaching\/learning environment.<\/p>\n<p>November 9 (12-1pm) Zoom<br \/>\n________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>INTRODUCTION TO FIVE Rs: Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, Responsibility, and Relationships (online)<br \/>\nKirkness and Bernardt\u2019s First Nations in Higher Education: The Four Rs (1991) is a foundational form for Indigenizing education. These four Rs: Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, and Responsibility, will be reviewed as well as a fifth R: Relationships. Strategies for weaving the FIVE Rs into your practice will be demonstrated.<\/p>\n<p>________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>November 15 (12-1 pm) Zoom<\/p>\n<p>INDIGENOUS RESOURCES WORKSHOP: What you need to know! (online)<br \/>\nIt can be daunting to find, select, and use Indigenous Resources in your course. During this session we will talk about how to find and select authentic Indigenous Resources; determine the appropriate use for the resources, and how to use them in your course.<\/p>\n<p>November 24 (12-1 pm) Zoom<br \/>\n_______________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>STORYTELLING AS PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP (online)<br \/>\nStorytelling is an Indigenous people\u2019s oral tradition that has been used for teaching and learning since time immemorial. In this session, we will learn about, and explore ways in which we can use this oral tradition in our teaching and learning environments.<\/p>\n<p>November 29 (12-1 pm) Zoom<br \/>\n________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>HOLISTIC APPROACHES TO TEACHING AND LEARNING WORKSHOP (in person)<br \/>\nIndigenous peoples of turtle island have strived to live a balanced lifestyle. This balance relates to the worldview that everything is interconnected. Holism involves the four domains of self: mind (to know), heart (to belong), body (to do), and spirit (to be). Participants will learn about holism, how to use it as a teaching and learning tool, and ways to create an inclusive assessment tool.<\/p>\n<p>December 8 (9 am-3 pm) &#8212; Abbotsford G124<br \/>\n***Limited to 12 participants.
