Thurs, Sept 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of the Fraser Valley in partnership with \u00c9y St\u2019elmexw St\u2019elt\u2019\u00edl\u00e9m \/ Good Medicine Songs, and supported by Tire Stewardship BC (\u201cTSBC\u201d) and BC Used Oil Management Association (\u201cBCUOMA\u201d), announced that the Chowiyes-Xwithet \/ Rise Up-Wake Up! event will be taking place on Sept. 29, 2022, from 1 p.m. \u2013 4 p.m. at the University of the Fraser Valley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/indigenous\/gathering-place\/\">Gathering Place<\/a> located at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/media\/global\/maps\/chilliwack\/UFV-Chilliwack-campus-map.pdf\"> 45190 Caen Ave., Chilliwack, B.C.<\/a> The event is free to attend, but people must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/chowiyes-xwithet-rise-up-wake-up-event-tickets-404807649577\">register at Event Brite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chowiyes-Xwithet \/ Rise Up-Wake Up! event will honour the shxweli (\u201clife spirit\u201d) of children lost to residential schools, survivors, and their families, and is dedicated to reconciliation and revitalization of Halq&#8217;em\u00e9ylem, the up-river dialect of the St\u00f3:l\u014d people.<\/p>\n<p>Chowiyes-Xwithet \/ Rise Up-Wake Up! will feature bilingual Good Medicine Songs, written in Halq&#8217;em\u00e9ylem and English. The song lyrics are steeped in Sxw\u014dxwiy\u00e1m (\u201cstories from the distant past\u201d), and Sqw\u00e9lqwel (\u201ctrue family stories\u201d).
