START: Suicide Prevention Training (Online)<\/p>\n
Most people are surprised to learn that they\u2019re much more likely to encounter someone who\u2019s thinking about suicide than someone who needs CPR. Yet suicide is preventable: with the right skills, any one can help save a life.<\/p>\n
In an effort to keep our students and community safe, UFV\u2019s Counselling department has teamed up with LivingWorks to provide free, online suicide prevention training to all UFV employees. In as little as one hour online, this asynchronous and interactive training program, called START, will give you the skills and knowledge to keep students, family, friends, co-workers, and others safe from suicide.<\/p>\n
In the training you will:<\/p>\n
\u2022 become more comfortable talking about suicide
\n\u2022 keep a loved one safe in times of distress
\n\u2022 support friends and co-workers
\n\u2022 build professional skills, and
\n\u2022 have peace of mind knowing you\u2019re ready to help.<\/p>\n
LivingWorks START is an online course that is:<\/p>\n
\u2022 useable on any computer, tablet or smartphone
\n\u2022 interactive with practice and simulations
\n\u2022 has built-in safety resources and features
\n\u2022 can be completed in 60-90 minutes, and
\n\u2022 works best on all browsers except for Internet Explorer.<\/p>\n
