Artist Talk: Mitchell Wiebe. Wednesday, Oct 6, from 1-2 pm. A co-hosted event with The Reach Gallery Museum<\/p>\n

Halifax-based artist Mitchell Wiebe is currently exhibiting his major touring exhibition VampSites at The Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford. Combining the artist\u2019s distinctive paintings with an installation of \u201cparasitic architecture\u201d, VampSites is an experiment in exhibition as temporary occupation. Wiebe openly embraces an artificial and attention-grabbing mode of address; he loves the cheap attraction of the funhouse, the appeal to regressive fantasy, and exuberance with a touch of poison.<\/p>\n

Join Wiebe and The Reach\u2019s Curator of Art & Visual Culture Adrienne Fast for a wide-ranging conversation about Wiebe\u2019s practice in painting, installation, and performance, the role of camp and gaudy expression in the contemporary art world, and how the artist\u2019s experience with subterranean cold war architecture has influenced his work.<\/p>\n
