The South Asian Studies Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley launches a permanent outdoor exhibit on April 14 at the Sikh Heritage Museum located in the National Historic Site Gur Sikh Temple, Abbotsford BC.<\/p>\n

As part of a month-long series of events by Sikh Heritage Month, BC, the exhibit, titled Komagata Maru: Discrimination Meets Determination pays homage to historic 1914 and to the power of determination to enact meaningful change by Sikh and South Asian would-be immigrants with the threaded connections to ongoing legacies of racism.<\/p>\n

The virtual launch will feature descendants of the passengers of the Komagata Maru, poetry, and vivid conversations on the ongoing relevance of this watershed moment in Canadian history.<\/p>\n

All are invited to join and the event is free of charge:
