The panels will help lower the university&#8217;s carbon footprint and will cut electricity consumption in the building by approximately 17% under peak conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Construction timing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tues, Feb 16-Mon, March 1:<\/strong> Construction begins with electrical work in the main electrical room in G Building<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mon, March 1-Mon, March 8:<\/strong> Delivery and installation of solar panels on the roof of G Building<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mon, Mar 15-Fri, April 2:<\/strong> Complete electrical work, testing of system, and complete final BC Hydro approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pay-off:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the long summer days, the power generated by the solar panels could supply as much as a third of the building\u2019s electrical demand. If power use is low, for example on a weekend, the panels could even be generating more power than the building requires, thereby feeding power back into the grid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is little construction impact to staff and students.
