And that’s fair, because we’re all complex people, with many different perspectives. But it doesn’t have to be so hard. The starting point is less, “what do you want to say?” – but rather, “what do you truly believe?” Beginning from a place of examining your own positionality, this workshop offers some foundational tools to approaching the creation of new work drawing on both auto-biography and broader research.

Participants will be introduced to a simple, but efficient structure to generating material through a system of questions and writing prompts. Through compiling a running list of “fragments” they will create a bank of creative possibilities in attainable chunks rather than jumping into one large project. The combination and sequencing of these seemingly disparate fragments will work to create implied meaning, and create the skeleton structure for a new project. If you can write an essay, you can use this system. If you can’t write an essay without getting feedback that you make too many “broad sweeping generalizations” – you’re gonna do great. After all, theatre is (maybe) just a series of bad answers to the questions of the world.

BIO
Jivesh Parasram (He/Him/His) is an award winning multidisciplinary artist, community activator, and facilitator of Indo-Caribbean descent.
