The NOS Migration in Brief. . .
The NOS migration involves transitioning from the Novell network operating system (NOS) to Microsoft. For more information on what the NOS is and why it is changing, please watch this short video presentation.
At the end of the NOS Migration project, all network services will be run on Microsoft and all Novell services will be permanently retired.
Project Status Update
Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange Email (Completed)
In the spring of 2011, UFV successfully completed the transition to Microsoft Exchange as the staff and faculty email system. The Novell GroupWise system was retired and Exchange has been in use now for several months.
File and Print Service Migration (Completed)
IT services has developed the network infrastructure required to support this part of the migration project. Given the size and geographical distribution of the network, this was no small task. Now, all staff and faculty computers are running on the Microsoft network operating system.
Windows 7 Migration – Staff and Faculty (In Progress)
UFV department computers will be moved to the Microsoft network and Windows 7 using a phased approach. Each week, one or several departments will be migrated to the new system. This approach limits the number of users affected at one time and allows IT Services to provide a high level of support as the transition occurs.
