Lloydminster, Alberta….The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the MSVC Mystics (Maritimes) 3-1, to advance to the CCAA “Elite Four” medal round for the first time in the program’s history. UFV started playing intercollegiate volleyball in 2004. The set scores in today’s quarterfinal were 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20. UFV will face the RSEQ silver medalists Élans de Garneau (Quebec City, Quebec) in the CCAA’s first semi-final at 5pm PST. The Élans defeated the NAIT Ooks (Edmonton, Alberta) 3-1, by set scores of 28-26, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-18.
The Cascades did earn the 2012 CCAA national championship bronze medal by winning their two consolation round matches and meeting up with Humber College Hawks (OCAA) who lost to eventual CCAA Champions VIU Mariners (PACWEST). UFV will play in tomorrow’s semi-final, the winner advances to the CCAA national championship match, the loser will still have an opportunity to earn the 2013 national bronze medal.
