Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the CBC Bearcats, 3-0, to earn the program’s first ever PACWEST (formerly BCCAA) regular season title. The Cascades, ranked number one in the CCAA top ten poll, finish the regular season with a sparkling 22-2 record, setting a new school mark for most wins and lowest loss total in a season. The Cascades will now turn their attention to this coming weekend’s PACWEST Championship tournament, to be held in Cranbrook, BC. UFV receives a bye into Friday’s (February 22nd) semi-finals where they will face the winner of #4 Capilano/#5 Camosun quarterfinal match, to be played on Thursday, February 21st. The other semi-final has VIU, who finished second with a 21-3 record playing the quarterfinal winner of #3 CBC/#6 Douglas. On Saturday, February 22nd will be the PACWEST Bronze and Gold medal matches, the winners of both PACWEST semi-finals earn a berth in the 2013 CCAA National Championship tournament, the following weekend in Lloydminster, Alberta.
Tonight’s set scores were 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16.
The UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team won four straight and five of their last nine, including tonight’s dramatic 3-2 victory over the CBC Bearcats to earn their fifth straight PACWEST playoff spot. With tonight’s victory UFV finishes tied with CBC at 6-18 after several tie breaking procedures the Cascades were awarded the final playoff spot with three more set victories during the 24 match regular season. The Cascades, ranked sixth in the tournament will face #3 Camosun College Chargers on Thursday, February 21st in one of the two quarterfinal games, in Cranbrook, BC. The winner of the quarterfinal game will face number one seed Douglas College Royals on Friday, February 22nd in the semi-final.
Tonight’s set scores against CBC were 25-15, 25-13, 25-19, 28-26 and 15-12.
