Open meeting regarding the Writing Centre and Academic Success Centre submissions

The UFV Board of Governors is asking that by June 12, 2015 the Senate of UFV provide advice on the proposed expansion of the Writing Centre into an Academic Success Centre and on whether the proposal is consistent with the approved Education Plan and Strategic Enrolment Management Plan.

In turn, the UFV Senate has requested the Academic Planning and Priorities Committee (APPC) provide a recommendation on the structure of the Writing Centre and the proposed Academic Success Centre to Senate by May 27, 2015.

Written Submissions:

APPC is reviewing documentation on the Writing Centre and Academic Success Center. We have received documents before the deadline (indicated here as noon on April 27) from members of the UFV community addressing the following topics:

  1. Is the proposed change from the Writing Centre to the Academic Success Centre consistent with the approved Education Plan and Strategic Enrolment Management Plan? Please note: plans are available in the “Resources” section of the Senate website.
  2. Comment on the structure of the Writing Centre and Academic Success Centre in terms of contributions to student success.

There will also be an opportunity, if time permits, for authors of written submissions to address APPC.

Open Meeting:

APPC will hold an open meeting on April 29 at 2:30 pm, Room B132 Abbotsford Campus and would like to invite students to give a five minute oral presentation (or written if preferred) on the above two statements.

If you wish to be on the speakers list to address these two statements you are asked to RSVP to the APPC Assistant, Janice Nagtegaal at Janice.Nagtegaal@ufv.ca by noon on Thursday, April 23, 2015.

Please note: only speakers on the speakers list will be permitted to give a five minute presentation. We ask that all oral presentations or written submissions focus solely on the two statements above.

More background information is available on the Writing Centre and the Academic Success Centre as well as on page five of the APPC minutes page.
