MLA Plecas and UFV hosting free workshop for non-profits — Feb 6
Abbotsford-South MLA Dr. Darryl Plecas, in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley, will host a free, half-day workshop for Abbotsford non‐profit organizations.
The event will take place on Fri, Feb 6, from 1–4:30 pm.
The day will feature keynotes addresses from Kevin McCord, president & CEO of the The Vancouver Foundation, who will be speaking on ‘Sustainable Funding for Non-Profits’ and Suzanne Ferguson, executive director of Labour Market Programs for the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, who will be speaking on ‘Leveraging the BC-‐Canada Jobs Grant for Non‐Profit Organizations’.
The day will also feature presentations by Justin P. Goodrich, managing partner at Giesbrecht, Goodrich & Co. who will be speaking on ‘Advocacy & Government Relations for Non-‐Profits’ and Madeleine Hardin, a UFV associate professor, who will be speaking on ‘How to Write an Effective Grant’.
Designed as part of an ongoing community engagement program, Plecas noted that part of public service is identifying needs in our community and playing our part in helping to meet those needs. “This is also a great opportunity for us to showcase an awesome program that will have tangible benefits for participants.”
“UFV is pleased to host this event and engage with our community partners in discussions about our common values and how best to develop the coordinated actions needed to address community challenges,” noted UFV president Mark Evered.
