UFV and Cascades teams to search for new Director of Athletics and Recreation Services

Director of Athletics Rocky Olfert has left UFV to pursue other opportunities, following two years of service to the university and the Cascades varsity athletics teams.

UFV will post the position of Director, Athletics and Recreation Services in the near future. In the interim, Dr. Chris Bertram, associate professor with the Kinesiology and Physical Education department, and head coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams, is appointed as Acting Director.

“I thank Mr. Olfert for his two years of service to UFV and the Cascades teams,” said Jody Gordon, UFV Vice-President, Students. “I am looking forward to working with Dr. Bertram as we move UFV’s Athletics and Recreation Services department in a new direction. The department is committed to enhancing the UFV student experience through our engaging campus recreation programs, and striving for excellence with our varsity teams.”

UFV student recreation services include intramural sports, fitness classes, and a fitness centre and amenities open for use by its 15,000 students. The UFV Cascades 150 student-athletes participate on 10 varsity teams in Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS), the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA), as well as two club sports. UFV teams play home games at the Envision Athletic Centre (basketball and volleyball) and Abbotsford Senior Secondary School (soccer) in Abbotsford, BC; golf at Chilliwack Golf & Country Club, and row at the Fort Langley Rowing Club.
