UFV students lend a helping hand at Fraser Valley Gleaners

UFV students help out at the Fraser Valley Gleaners.

Residents of UFV’s Baker House recently volunteered at the Fraser Valley Gleaners to help cut and process food destined for developing countries.

The 17 students are: Lee Harris (Chetwynd, B.C.), Jake Hu (China), Laura Ingram (Summerland, B.C.) , Sufyan Bijli (India), Soli Mun (South Korea), Riely Remepel (Stony Plain, AB), Francis Seung Hyeok Kim (South Korea), Katherine Waddell (Maple Ridge, B.C.), Madeleine Williams (grand Forks, B.C.), Faisal Alhumaidi (Saudi Arabia), Morgan Hutchinson-Dionne (New Westminster, B.C.), Jeff Li (Langley, B.C.), Jon Miller (West Vancouver, BC), Taylor Pouline (St. Albert, AB), Sherry Sunner (Cranbrook, B.C.), Ali Webb (Vermilion, AB)and  Joel Thomas (Quesnel, B.C.).

They volunteered their time to help serve the local organization responsible for feeding people all over the world.

The students are currently enrolled in UFV’s University 101 course which helps Baker House students get familiar with university life and the responsibilities that go along with studying at university.  Volunteering at the Fraser Valley Gleaners is the service learning component of the course.

“UFV should be very proud of the work these students did today. They made a very positive impact on this organization and we have been asked to come back,” said Tracey Mason-Innes, manager of UFV Residence Services.
