Poetry workshop offer by past UFV writer-in-residence Daniela Elza

Calling all poets and writers. Past UFV writer-in-residence Daniela Elza will be teaching a two-part weekend workshop on exploring the process from poetry concept to paid market.

Workshop description:

The two-part workshop includes going through the point of generating text through writing activities on different themes. Participants will think about what writing means, how it finds its form, and the benefits of a writing practice. They will build community through sharing. Also addressed are some basic techniques of editing your own and other’s work, writing a cover letter for submission of your work and considering and discussing questions around publication as well as how to deal with and have fun with rejections.

About the Instructor:
Daniela Elza’s work has appeared nationally and internationally in over 100 publications. Her poetry collections are the weight of dew (2012), the book of It (2011), and most recently milk tooth bane bone (2013), of which David Abram says: “Out of the ache of the present moment, Daniela Elza has crafted something spare and irresistible, an open armature for wonder.” Daniela earned her doctorate in the philosophy of education from Simon Fraser University (2011). In the poetry community Daniela does readings, serves as a contest judge, guest-edits for journals/anthologies, organizes and promotes events, collaborates with other artists, conducts workshops, co-curates and host a reading series, and works as a writer-in-residence. She lives and writes in Vancouver.
