Project will improve access for people with disabilities at Abby campus

Accessability-ramp-Abbotsford-CampusThere will be construction taking place at the front entrance of UFV’s Abbotsford campus over the next few months. The construction will include some excavation, the construction of new pathways, a crosswalk and ramps as well as some landscaping and lighting improvements. We expect very little impact to daily programming at the Abbotsford campus, but appreciate your patience and consideration as we improve accessibility for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors attending the Abbotsford campus.

Buildings A&B were the first buildings constructed on the Abbotsford campus, which opened in 1983. The main pedestrian entranceway is a key thoroughfare and is not properly equipped for accessibility. Planned improvements will address the need for code-compliant ramps and walkways to make the front of the Abbotsford campus accessible for people with disabilities.

Project objectives:
The project will include the construction of approximately 40 m x 1.5 m code-compliant exterior pedestrian ramp to improve access to the main entrance to Building A and B, the pedestrian access improvements from parking Lot 5 to Buildings A and B, and a perimeter drainage repair to Building B. The project will include site works, retaining walls, street lighting and landscaping improvements.
